Before you start

Steps

  1. Click Rolly at the top of any page. Rolly opens in a panel on the right. You can also press Cmd+J on a Mac or Ctrl+J on Windows.

  2. Click a suggestion, such as What gaps are on the calendar?, to put it in the box. Or type your own question, such as "Which posts got the most comments this month?"

  3. Pick how much effort Rolly puts in: Quick, Standard or Deep. The line under the buttons says what each one is for.

  4. Press Enter or click the send arrow. The box says Rolly is working… while Rolly answers, and the answer appears in the panel.

  5. Type a follow-up question in the same box. Rolly keeps the whole conversation in mind, so you don't need to repeat yourself.

  6. To ask about something new, click New. The panel clears and your last chat is saved.

  7. To open an older chat, click Rolly in the sidebar. Open the Recent conversations… list at the top of the page and pick the chat.

What Rolly can look up for you

Rolly reads your brand's analytics, your content calendar, your posts and drafts, your comments and DMs, your notes, projects and tasks, and what you've saved in your Knowledge base. It can also search the web and open a link you paste into your message. Rolly only sees the brand you have open, so switch brands to ask about another client.

Which effort to pick

Quick is for looking something up, such as "What's on the calendar for Friday?" It's the fastest and uses the least of your AI allowance, but it isn't the one to write posts with. Standard is for everyday work, such as editing a caption, drafting a reply or a couple of posts, or asking about your numbers. Deep is for writing that has to be good, such as a campaign or a month of content, and for working out why your numbers changed. It's slower and uses more of your allowance.

When Rolly wants to change something

Rolly never saves a change by itself. When you ask for drafts, tasks or notes, Rolly shows a card with each change, marked Nothing saved yet, and you choose what to apply. Draft your posts with Rolly shows how.

When you reopen the Rolly panel

If your last chat was within the past day, the panel opens on it and shows Picking up where you left off… while it loads. An older chat stays in the list on the Rolly page, so a new question starts fresh.

What Rolly won't do

Rolly only works on social media for your brand: posts, plans, numbers, your inbox and your brand profile. It turns down other requests, such as writing code, homework or general questions. Rolly can't publish a post, send an email or DM, or post a comment for you. It only schedules posts when you ask it to, and you approve that change first.

If you're a Viewer on your team

You can ask Rolly questions, and you'll see a Read-only badge next to its name. Rolly won't prepare any changes for you, because a Viewer can't change content on the brand.

If Rolly can't answer you, it's likely one of these reasons

Rolly is greyed out in the sidebar. Your workspace is on the Free or Essential plan, and hovering over it shows "Rolly is included on a higher plan." Move to the Pro or Max plan to use Rolly.

"You have used your monthly AI allowance for November. AI features are paused until next month." Your workspace has used its AI allowance for the month. Check how much of your AI allowance is left shows how to buy more.

The send button stays grey and a count shows under the box. Your message is over 50,000 characters, and the count says "Shorten it, or attach the longer part as a file." Cut it down, or put the long part in a file and attach it.

"You're sending messages faster than Rolly can take them. Wait a minute, then send it again." Wait a minute, then send your message again.

"This conversation is already generating a reply. Wait for it to finish." The same chat is open in another tab and Rolly is still answering there. Wait for that answer, or click New to ask in a new chat.
