Save a post as a draft and finish it later

Keep a post you are still working on, find it under Drafts, and schedule it when it is ready.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Click New post, pick the platforms and add the media, as for any post.

  2. Write as much of the caption as you have, then click Save draft at the top of the composer. You can leave the post at any step.

  3. Your drafts are in Posts, on the Drafts tab. A draft with no date sits at the end of the list, and drafts don't show on the calendar.

  4. When you're ready to finish it, click the draft's More options menu and choose Edit. The composer opens with everything you saved.

  5. Click Continue through each step, changing anything you need. Here the caption gets its last line.

  6. On the Schedule step, pick the day and time and click Update & schedule for. The post moves from Drafts to Scheduled and appears on the calendar.

Saved as you go

Every Continue from the Media step on saves the post as a draft without a message, so a closed tab doesn't lose your work. Saving a draft needs at least one platform.

Drafts and your plan

Drafts don't count toward the Free plan's 20 posts a month.

Other ways to get a draft

Duplicate in a post's menu makes a copy as a draft. Show clients this draft in a draft's menu lets your clients see it in their portal before it's scheduled.

Deleting a draft

A deleted draft goes to Trash, where you can restore it for 30 days.
