The twenty-four hour rule, said out loud
Meta lets a business answer a direct message only within twenty-four hours of the person’s last one. Most tools let you type a reply and then fail to send it.
The box goes away, not the message
When the window has closed the reply box is replaced by a line naming who you are waiting on.
It reopens on its own
The moment they write again, you can answer again. Nothing to reset.
Comments have no window
A comment or a mention can be answered whenever you get to it.
Automations live inside it too
A comment-to-DM automation answers within the same twenty-four hours, and stops when it closes.

A file in a direct message follows Meta’s limits rather than ours: images up to 8MB, video, audio or a PDF up to 25MB, five per reply.
What we will not make up
Most of this inbox is an argument with what the platforms return. These are the places we chose to say so.
“Hidden for others” means exactly that
Hiding pulls a comment out of everyone else’s view. Meta still shows it to its author and their friends, untouched, so the badge says so instead of reading “Hidden” and letting you assume it is gone.
A hide is checked, not trusted
Meta answers “success” to hides it did not perform. We read the flag back from the platform afterwards and refuse to tell you a comment is hidden when it is not.
Withheld is not the same as empty
Where Meta gives us a message with no content at all, the bubble reads “Not available here”. Where there was a photo but no url, it reads “Sent a photo”. Neither pretends to be the message.
Your DMs are not sitting in our database
We keep the thread and our own state: who, when, unread, window. The messages are fetched from the platform when you open the thread. Comments are stored, because a queue has to remember what you handled.
A reply on Threads is post-once
Threads has no endpoint to edit a reply, so the Edit button is off there and says why. Facebook edits in place; Instagram has no edit either, so we repost and tell you the timestamp will change.
An automation’s messages are labelled
A message a comment-to-DM automation sent carries the automation’s name in the thread, so nobody wonders which teammate wrote it.

Inbox questions
Instagram and Facebook for direct messages and comments, and Threads for replies and @-mentions. X, LinkedIn and TikTok are not here: none of them exposes an API that would let us read and answer reliably, so we would rather leave them out than half-show them.
